Conference – save the date
We will host our first annual global conference at Chelsea FC – Stamford Bridge (London, UK) on Friday 31st May 2024. Please save the date and we will share more information next month. You will gather this is the day before the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley stadium.
Informing and educating the industry
Thank you to those who have supported the education courses and their development over the past 6-weeks. We are close to sharing these with members. In the meantime, take a look at the education programme and engage with our first course. Each of you who completes a course, shares online or recommends to a friend, plays a huge role in supporting our association – it makes a difference. Thank you for all of your support so far.
Growing our network
Each year we ask members to introduce one or two new members who would benefit from membership of the ASD and add value to our global network. If you can invite at least one member within your network it would be massively welcomed – here is the link to direct to applying for membership – join the ASD.
A number of members have been contacted by Rohit Katedeshmukh recently, who is a member of our social media team. Rohit is collating quotes and comments on the role of the ASD in supporting members in the industry. Please keep an eye for his email, or contact me directly to introduce you to him to provide your support (here is an example from John Thorrington).

ASD exchange: Abex Futebol
The ASD engaged in a knowledge exchange led by Technical Committee member Bruno Costa. Here a number of the ASD team members attended the Abex Futebol presidential elections where we presented to sporting directors from the three top divisions in Brazil. Joel Roberts and myself shared insights on the evolution of the sporting director role, alongside our next steps to support, connect and develop members. Then Stuart Webber and Mariela Nisotaki shared insights and experiences on player trading between Brazil and England. Brazil is a country of football and many of you are already working closely in or are closely connected to people in the country, however this link is there to provide knowledge exchange and direct networks to clubs for ASD members. Thank you to Abex Futebol for the invitation, and Bruno and everyone for hosting us impeccably.
ASD exchange: Benfica
We recently joined Benfica for a day of insights and football with Pedro Marques. Pedro provide a tour and insight of the Benfica Campus alongside watching a youth game. Beyond this Pedro hosted an in-depth discussion with members of the ASD. In the evening we attended an incredible game and event, the Benfica v Lisbon derby. We are delighted Pedro has accepted our invitation to join the ASD Technical Committee and given his experience, expertise, network and hospitality, we have no-doubt Pedro will continue to be an active supporter for others colleagues in the ASD and beyond. Thank you Pedro and Benfica for hosting us.
Our podcast
Paul Musa has been diligently working behind the scenes and have steadily been building a host of episodes with members, which are a quality listen. We intend to start sharing these in December and I will ensure everyone is alerted to this. Thank you Paul and everyone who has contributed or committed so far.
